Lazy Day 03:34
Lazy Day The sunshine woke me at half-past eight Birds were singin’ loud about the beautiful day So much fun to be had, nothing stood in my way Until I started feelin’ lazy Oh 1 step, 2 step, 3 step, 4 Why’s it so hard to get out that door? The sun’s so bright it might burn my head I think I better go back to bed Singin’ 4 step, 3 step, 2 step, 1 I bet they’re all havin’ fun Right around noon I heard the doorbell ring Neighbor shoutin’ ‘bout the most remarkable scene He said “Hurry my friend, and come with me You won’t believe what you see” So 1 step, 2 step, 3 step, 4 Why’s it so hard to get out that door? Such excitement might make me faint I think I’d better wait Singin’ 4 step, 3 step, 2 step, 1 I bet they’re all havin’ fun The girl of my dreams, sweet as apple pie Called me on the phone about a quarter-to-five Said “Boy I want to marry you, that ain’t no lie Come and get me, don’t be shy So 1 step, 2 step, 3 step, 4 Why’s it so hard to get out that door? She’ll probably change her mind by the time I arrive I think I’d better stay inside Singin’ 4 step, 3 step, 2 step, 1 I bet they’re all havin’ fun I was gonna plant a garden, I was gonna learn to paint I could’ve writ’ a novel, seen a play I could’ve traveled, seen the world, gone searching for my fate Instead I had myself a lazy day 4 step, 3 step, 2 step, 1 I bet they’re all havin’ fun

Two Days 02:49
Two Days I need a break to clear my head Each time I feel that hook release You reel me right back in My head is spinnin’ and my eyeball’s twitchin’ Got a big dumb smile like a jack-o-lantern grinnin’ On a fence post wonderin’ in the middle of July When did my time pass me by? Just give me two days to make things right One to help me find the words Next one to recite Two days to think things through First one to convince myself that the second I’m runnin’ Far away from you I need a drink; wanna feel that burn If I don’t remember leaving there’s less chance that I return You got me locked up, wrapped tight Bound down like the sun in the dead of night When you fool me once it cuts me twice That’s why you hear me cryin’... Just give me two days to make things right One to gather gasoline The next one to ignite Two days to find my way First day to catch my breath And the second one to blow you away You know the beat drops forever when the drum splits down the center Psycho dancin’ to the absent sound And if my headstone resembles The soul it shadows over It’ll be cracked before it hits the ground Just give me two days Please won’t you give me just two days out of my life? Two days to make things right One to help me find the words Next one to incite Two days think things through First day to convince myself Yeah first day to make certain that The second I’m runnin’ far away from you

Ode to Carpet I’ve got carpet under my roof Between the walls Reminds me every time I’m upside down And softens the blow when I forget Yeah when I fall up to the ground Gas in my tank Food on the shelf I eat my blessings without wiping my mouth I know it’s a crime if I complain But still I feel my mind comin’ apart at the seams The last thing left I need eludes me Would you find me a shoulder to lay my head? I’d trade in everything I’ve got I know I have two of my own But neither quite reach The hole where my worries keep slippin’ out Sometimes I get marbles stuck in my teeth They rattle my brain I guess it’s no wonder people think I’m Incapable of speakin’ for myself Without them all spilling to the ground Where lucky me I’ve got carpet under my feet A shirt on my back And so far all my bits and pieces intact I know it’s a crime if I complain But still I feel my mind comin’ apart at the seams That last thing left I need eludes me Would you find me a shoulder to lay my head? I’d trade in everything I’ve got I know I have two of my own But neither quite reach The hole where my worries keep slippin’ out

Sunglasses 03:11
Sunglasses Nice reputations, bad inclinations Tip-toe’n that tangled line Roses turn red and it’s off with her head A curse behind every smile When a beautiful day makes you cower away and hide You’ve got the sick of it all blues Can’t take any more good news And you don’t know why But you’ve got to get that sunshine out of your eyes It might sound funny But you can’t appreciate the sweetest honey Til you taste a bitter lie The blues is ringin’ in your soul While carolers are at your door Where harmonies are shot and swept aside When every happy ending makes you grit your teeth And angrily decry You’ve got the sick of it all blues Can’t take any more good news And you don’t know why But you’ve got to get that sunshine out of your eyes When a beautiful day makes you cower away and hide You’ve got the sick of it all blues Can’t take any more good news And you don’t know why But you’ve got to get that sunshine out of your eyes

Barricade 04:00
Barricade To this endless lonesome road I say goodbye It’s taken all my life But I can finally leave you behind It’d be a lie if I told you I’m not scared Of where I plan to go But if you love me at all please don’t ever welcome me home Shut me out should I return Barricade me upon my return To the boundless starlit sky I say hello It’s taken all my strength to come find you And now I’m on my own My feet ache and I’m feeling oh so alone My heart just might explode But however I cry please don’t ever send me back home To this endless lonesome road I say farewell My future’s now unpaved and I thank you For giving up the wheel It’d be a shame if I traveled all these miles Just to turn back now So if you love me at all please don’t ever answer my call Shut me out should I return Barricade me upon my return Shut me out should I return Set up a barricade upon my return

Sound Sleepin’ I’ve got lost time stickin’ like sand between my toes The more I try to run it down The more the pile grows It’s really quite redundant chasing last night with tomorrow Cuz yesterday ain’t ever gonna change Sleep is never lost, just gets misplaced for a while Winds up turnin’ up whether or you want it to But I ain’t in a hurry to replace it when it’s gone Cuz I know soon at the end of the road, sleepin’; Sound sleepin’ - it’s all I’ll know Ain’t no use in tryin’ to stay awake, oh no When they lay me down to rest Won’t be in my Sunday best Just tuck me in Keep me warm I’m gonna be sound sleepin’ Evermore Said I ain’t in a hurry to replace it when it’s gone Cuz I know soon at the end of the road, sleepin’; Sound sleepin’ - it’s all I’ll know Ain’t no use in tryin’ to stay awake Just tuck me in Keep me warm I’m gonna be sound sleepin’ Evermore Will I be… I said will I be… Evermore?

Dancin’ With a Stranger Floatin’ down the sidewalk The moon in my hair Solo one Saturday night Til’ somehow that magic midnight air Caught me dancin’ with a stranger Through Washington Square Twirlin’ and a-swingin’ Dippin’ and a-singin’ Strings drapin’ down from the stars Midnight’ll leave ya gaspin’ for air When you’re dancin’ with a stranger Through Washington Square Oh our footwork does the talkin’ As butterflies swirl And elation radiates I surrender my heart Though I don’t even know her name And we’re twirlin’ and a-swingin’ Dippin’ and a-singin’ Won’t the morning drift further away? Cuz there’s somethin’ about that midnight air Midnight left me gaspin’ for air Something about that midnight air Left me dancin’ with a stranger Through Washington Square

Hangman 04:03
Hangman Oh the shivers keep me company As I wait in solitude I can’t give back what I stole Now in the hole I left resides my doom This fate I dug myself And deserve every inch that I’ve sown Now it’s time to meet the hangman Undivided attention swallows me As my head circles through Past mistakes collecting dust Unaltered by my current point of view This fate I dug myself And deserve every inch that I’ve sown Now it’s time to meet the Hangman My time has surely come The grip of death beyond your thumb Don’t let them look me in the - I don’t want to have to say good- Buy my love a diamond - Ring the chapel bells yeah let them sing About the wedding gown I’ll never - See me at the gallows’ end tonight Rewind, step in line Close my eyes, go back in time Mend the wounds before the scars appear Start fresh, do everything I dreamt about before my dreams were swept away Stripped away Before I threw them all away Now it’s time to meet the Hangman My time has surely come The grip of death beyond your thumb Don’t let them look me in the - I don’t want to have to say good- Buy my love a diamond - Ring the chapel bells yeah let them sing About the wedding gown I’ll never - See me at the gallows’ end tonight Oh all the world I’ve never seen Lies in the bucket underneath my - Feet are numb but still I feel The chill as life escapes my seal So tell the wife I’ll never know I would’ve loved to meet her ‘fore I go To find the gallows’ end You’ll see me at the gallows’ end Tonight

Worthless 03:28
Worthless Somebody’s great grandad, when he was able Built a table with his own two hands He said “I don’t give a holler how pretty she looks As long as when I sit she stands” For many fine years it was part of the home Til that old man found peace in the ground But it never stopped standing It wouldn’t stop standing around Years passed, the house it sold One day that table found itself in the yard With a note that read “Free of charge If you’ll just get it off my lawn” People called it worthless Pathetic, ugly and weak But that table kept on standing proud It wouldn’t stop standing around Decades flew by as wood chipped and paint faded Only darkness had that table been in Buried in garages, old basements, sheds and storage Never kept where it’d be seen It’d been left in the street, even sent to the dump But somehow each time it was found But some keen eye who thought that ugly thing should keep on standing around More years passed, now a century old It found itself in a swanky boutique With a note that read “Not for sale Unless your pockets run incredibly deep” People used to call it worthless Pathetic, ugly and weak Til it stood so long It lived to see the day It became a priceless antique I’m a man who’s been called worthless Pathetic, ugly and weak But I’ll just keep on standing Countin’ the days Til I become a priceless antique

Used To It 02:45
Used to It The doctor told the boy “Son you’re bound to go blind Down the road the devil’ gonna take your sight” So he closed his eyes tight and felt his way down the hall And said “I might as well get used to it now” Well the doc came back and said “It’s time for a talk One day you’ll find your legs no longer able to walk” So he kicked off his shoes and crawled into bed And said “I might as well get used to it now” Now the doctor shook his head, and he said with a sigh “Son I fear it looks like some day you might die” So he lie on his back and pulled the sheets head-high And said “I might as well get used to it now” Momma came in, said “Enough is enough Your bones are still strong, and your eyes are still young Now get out of bed, you’ve got livin’ to do You better make the most of it now Yeah you’d better make the most of it now, while you can Cuz you’ll never get used to it”

Right Here 03:10
Right Here Every time I step on toes I lose my balance And when I try to pull a leg I wind up getting kicked If I were to lose my head it’d surely go unnoticed An unrequited song and dance in a parlor room I may not be much in the way of stealin’ the show But I’m right here So you know Every time you crack a joke it brings the house down And when you chance to play with fire you get perfectly lit You’re the life of a royal ball without an invitation And if you were to hold your breath the world be still I may not be much in the way of stealin’ the show While you’ve got the touch to raise a garden from the snow But you’re right here This I know I may not be much in the way of stealin’ the show While you’ve got the touch to raise a garden from the snow How curious the thought, what diametric hearts bestow But we’re right here This we know

Medusa’s Gone Say hey as you’re passin’ by Say hey to your neighbors if they catch your eye Show some teeth Let ‘em underneath the view Say hello with your hand Might even pass as goodbye Doesn’t make a difference as long as you try To say hey One big smile before crossed paths expire Can keep you company throughout the day And every last one of us Save for some maladjusted Psycho-killer types to avoid Would be delighted just to hear the way you…. Say hey as you’re passin’ through Say hola, ciao, comment allez vous Pave the way for another word or two Say hello with your hand Might even pass as goodbye Doesn’t make a difference as long as you try To say hey I can’t help but note We’re all enamored with the sidewalk There must be some sort of sorcery Embedded in our shoe-tops now and If we lift our gaze we’ll miss a clue And we pretend that if our eyeballs Are confronted by another pair They’ll spontaneously combust So swiftly we avert our stare And blindly navigate the avenue But we wont Turn to stone Medusa’s gone That much we know So open wide For the free show You’re not alone So… Say hey as you’re passin’ by Say hey to your neighbors if they catch your eye Show some teeth Let ‘em underneath the view Say hello with your hand Might even pass as goodbye Doesn’t make a difference as long as you try To say hey
